Hakuei Kim – Trisonique at the Wayne State Pyramid Stage | Detroit Jazz Festival

Hakuei Kim and his trio deliver both melodic and abstract sounds that at times seem traditional and at other times experimental.  I sense the influence of both Keith Jarrett and McCoy Tyner.

Hakeui was born in 1975 in Kyoto and studied jazz and improvisation at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under ECM artist Mike Nock.  It is no surprise why I am drawn to Hakeui’s music, as I have followed so many ECM artists through the years.

Hakuei’s latest release is “HANA” (Verve/Universal).

I have embedded a video clip as well so you can see and hear this great talent.
