About 18 years ago, I developed an interest in portraiture and launched Portraits By Rod shortly after. My focus had been on city photography when I started my photography business in 2000. I enjoyed capturing high school senior photos and corporate headshots. Now, it is time for another change.
Portraits by Rod is ceasing operation. The portrait business has changed rapidly in recent years. It’s not just one issue, but online AI portrait apps are having a significant impact on portrait photographers. I will spare you a long diatribe of my thoughts on this subject (in short, headshot photography should reflect authenticity), but it is reality, and I see it as an opportunity to do something else. I will continue my city and jazz photography, which I really enjoy.
I am also launching a new business, Detroit Legacy Tours. I have been researching and lecturing on Detroit history for years, and it is a passion of mine. Now I can share that knowledge with downtown walking tours. I expect the new website will be ready sometime in July.
